The Sightless Siege

2024/10/19

I’m wading through the tar of long past
To spin a tale of love that couldn’t last
In the shallow outskirts above long forgotten
Sat a lucid memory of trouble we’d begotten

We laughed and we lived, we forged our own rules
Beneath love’s facade. we were nothing but fools
We crossed a harsh line, yet left unaware
We cursed out the ones who voiced their despair

The floodgates would break, the dissenters would come
And we fought with words that feel eerily dumb
It was far too much for me to accept
Our warmth felt greatest when one of us had wept

The reality of the surface broke each of us apart
But our companionship strengthened all our hearts
That strength bred love, and with it bravado
And undying loyalty through thick and sorrow

So when corruption revealed itself developed
Our love had evolved, and hatred enveloped
I don’t hate myself for what happened then,
Inflicted with burning perception to which I fell victim

Yet I still feel disturbed, for with all my power
I chose to abstain, rather than scour
The fear of wrongdoing was harshly left numb
Until the moment when it all came undone

So fearful, I left, but soon to come back
To a shell of the love that came under attack
